International Student Accommodation: Start Your Search Early

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Demand for quality international education directly translates in increased demand for international accommodation for students. Since more and more students are enrolling themselves in international level institutions and world schools, they often have to go out of their home country or city to study. Though you may secure your admission into your favorite program and institute, it is not guaranteed that you will be provided student housing facility by your institute or university. As an international student you will be given preferential treatment for student accommodation, still you can never be sure to get student apartment of your choice in your favorite city as the demand for student accommodation is usually higher than what could be met easily.

One thing that you need to keep in mind is that you need to give equal importance to your search for international student accommodation as you give to your studies. The way you worked hard to secure your admission in your favorite college; you need to work aggressively the same way to secure your student apartment or student housing. If you do not start your search in good time, it may happen that you will run out of all good options and then will be left with no alternative but to stay in some residential area with no facilities for academic excellence.

Academic areas are in high demand

Ideally you should get your hostel or accommodation within the precincts of your university or college, still the second best option would be to get student housing in a well connected locality which is near to your college and has good facilities for academics like bus or train service to university and round the clock electric supply. Since such accommodations are in high demand, they usually come with a higher price tag. However, if you are not even able to get housing in such a colony, you still need not lose heart. You should first accept the accommodation which is being offered to you and then you may swap housing with your acquaintances or friends. This way, you will be able to get student housing in your choicest colony or city.

A good accommodation for students should have some basic facilities like:

• Cafeteria
• Laundry
• Internet connectivity
• Telephone connection
• Round the clock power back up
• Study table with chair
• Sleeping bed
• Security
• Open space for social gatherings
• Parking facility

You can search for good accommodation online also as there are some websites that specialize only in providing housing solutions to international students. These websites have a vast database of student accommodations and you may even find roommates also to swap housing with you as these sites also maintain a large database of student profiles. Best part of using these websites is that you can easily find people of similar interests there with whom you can share your housing and ideas both. This way, you will be able to foster strong relationships with your roommates.

Homeschooling? Teacher? School holidays? Weekends? After school time? Grandparent? If you have toddlers to teens you will find something of interest in this excellent book published by Dorling Kindersley. Publishers recommend Backyard Science for 9 - 12 years old as the ideal audience. Information is presented throughout this quality hardcover book in a clear, colourful and interesting manner. Experiments are well explained outlining all the resources you will need for success and giving clear instructions (younger children will still benefit from adult supervision to get them started in some cases). This is hands on science in the real world not a laboratory.

Today's children are the scientists of the future and it is children who are photographed in the book doing the experiments, so readers will want to be just like the kids in the book. Children are encouraged to draw their own conclusions from over 50 experiments across a variety of science sub-topics. A science strip down the right hand side of the page helps explain the theory behind the experiments and assist with the scientists understanding why they are doing the experiments and what they might expect to see.

How can an ordinary garden be good for science? Even in a small plot you can spend days doing biology, zoology, meteorology and much more. An example of one of the experiments to demonstrate transpiration is to change the colour of the petals on a white flower with food colouring.

Equipment
- Different colours of food colouring
- White flowers
- Vases for flowers
- Water

Method
1. Take some white flowers and put each one in a vase
2. Mix different food colouring and water in the vases
3. Leave them for several hours to see if their stems are like straws

Notes
- Some flowers work better than others, so try different ones
- How long does each take to change colour?
- How do you think the colour got to the flowers?

Learn about root growth, seed dispersal, photosynthesis, flight, insects, night life, rainbows, centrifugal force, rain gauges, weather, shadows, soil science, worm farms, pond habitats, pond life, trees (how old? how tall?), levers, reaction times, balance, heartbeat, night sky studies, moon phases. Backyard science can take a lot of patience, but is great fun so read the science stuff boxes, do the experiments and keep a science diary with drawings, sketches, diagrams, photographs and notes. Remember when studying animals to take care not to harm them and if you move them be sure to return them to where you found them. Have fun discovering science in your backyard!

A DK Dinosaur Encyclopaedia Is An Essential Early Reference Book For Dinosaur Fans Aged 4 Years+

DK's Dinosaur Encyclopaedia for kids is one of the best first reference titles for young palaeontologists. It contains just the right amount of detail and information presented in an engaging and colourful manner. The publishers recommended age level is 4-12 years old, but older children will be fascinated and enjoy exploring the book perhaps with younger siblings. It's full of really useful information presented in a way that's both educational and entertaining. Throughout the 127 pages text is presented in a variety of fonts and sizes. One of my favourite features is the questions featured at the base of one page with the answer on the opposite page upside down. A couple of examples include: Was the ichthyosaur longer than a blue whale? No. They were big, but blue whales reach 100ft (30m)" in length. or Was Iguandon a plant-eater or a meat-eater? It was a plant-eater. Did you know that the word dinosaur means terrible lizard and has only been used by scientists since 1841.

The illustrations provide an excellent balance between text, diagrams, photographs and computer generated images. The book has some creative features to assist the readers to begin learning how to cross-reference. For example use the "become an expert" buttons to find out more about a subject on other pages. "Weird or what?" buttons give extra weird and wonderful facts, and the curiosity quiz will have readers searching through the sections trying to identify the images.

Contents:
Age of the Dinosaurs
The "Terrible Lizard" and what was Earth like 160 million years ago.

Let's Look At Dinosaurs
What is a dinosaur?, different sizes, eggs, birth, care of young, social aspects and hunting.

Triassic Dinosaurs
The first dinosaurs, petrified forests, plant-eaters and meat-eaters.

Jurassic Dinosaurs
Sauropods, more plant-eaters and China's killers.

Cretaceous Dinosaurs
Cows, horns and frills, armoured tanks, T. REX, raptors and a pot-bellied dinosaur.

Fossils
How are they made, bones and jigsaws.

End of the Dinosaurs
What happened? Who survived? Living dinosaurs and dinosaur records.

With this book you will take a look at some of the most incredible creatures the world has ever seen. Humans like us have only been on our world for about 200,000 years, but dinosaurs ruled the planet for 160 million years. See where they came from, how they lived and what happened to them.

I highly recommend this book for a homeschooling family or just for any parent with kids who want to learn about our dinosaurs and their world. The publishers recommended age level is 4-8 years old, but older children will find this a useful starter text It is full of just the sort of information inquisitive youngsters want to know, presented in a way that's both educational and entertaining. There is a full range of DK Encyclopaedias covering topics of the Human Body, Nature, Space, Science and Animals as well as an Atlas, Dictionary and General Encyclopaedia. All school libraries should have a set of these excellent quality reference titles from DK.
